Fears about children and/or finances naturally lead to painful negative emotions such as anger, frustration and resentment. When we are overcome by these emotions, we lose our ability to be rational, make good decisions and communicate effectively. In these states, we often inadvertently work against our own best interests and those of our children. An Unexpected Journey stands apart from other co-parenting work in that it focuses on recognizing and working with these intense emotional states. In a respectful and compassionate way, An Unexpected Journey focuses on cultivating skills that empower divorced co-parents to understand and move out of difficult emotional states and into a place of clarity, power and wisdom. From this non-reactive, grounded place we are able to make decisions that benefit ourselves and our children.

About the Author
Alisa Jaffe Holleron, LCSW, creator of the Live Oak Center for Psychotherapy and Education is an experienced psychotherapist. Alisa specializes in divorced co-parenting, couples therapy, emotions work, parenting, co-parenting, family therapy and individual self-growth. She has been facilitating parenting classes and groups for more than 10 years. Alisa became interested in divorced co-parenting after going through a divorce. She found that the resources available did not address the difficult emotions she was experiencing. She recognized that in order to parent and co-parent more effectively she would have to learn to work with her anger, frustration and resentment. She has been passionate about working with divorced co-parents and sharing the tools that she has discovered, both though her own experience and the many co-parents she has worked with over the years. Alisa has had several parenting articles published on the Huffington Post, Shine and Mothering Magazine website. She is acutely aware of, and humbled by, the complexity and challenge of being human. A lifelong learner, she has an insatiable appetite for understanding human beings and the human condition. She earned her Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Illinois in 1985, and has worked in social services her entire adult life. Her engaging, open-minded, humorous and accepting style is appreciated by her clients and group participants.
